Abstract

The post-dialysis disequilibrium syndrome is a clinical phenomenon of acute neurological signs and symptoms attributed to the development of cerebral edema, which occurs during or after treatment with hemodialysis. This syndrome is rare but once it happens is a serious complication of dialysis. The disequilibrium syndrome was a major problem for two or more decades, when patients with acute uremia were subjected to prolonged dialysis. The treatment of this syndrome once that has been established is unsuccessful, henee the measures to prevent its development are crucial.

In the following case review we will describe the pathophysiology of the same and also discuss the measures and factors that allow us to prevent their development.
