INTRODUCTION. It constitutes one of the cerebrovascular accidents in spite of the advances in its handling, it is a devastating disease, being the person in charge of an important loss of years of productive life, that appears in young people, with predominance of the feminine sex. The mortality rate is high, low life, lifespan1. OBJECTIVE. To describe the behavior of patients with spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage in the Adult Unit of the Intensive Care Area of the Hospital de Especialidades Carlos Andrade Marín. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Retrospective study of cross section. The sample was conformed with patients diagnosed with Spontaneous Subarachnoid Hemorrhage. Bivariate and multivariate analyzes are applied. RESULTS Of 28 patients attended, 53,6% were over 65 years old and 35,7% had Subarachnoid Hemorrhage, Hunt and Hess IV and V. The average length of hospital stay was 7,6 days. Six patients with a history of hypertension and dyslipidemia died as risk factors. Rebleeding along with intracranial hypertension were the main complications related to subarachnoid hemorrhage. Important non-neurological causes of mortality such as infections, metabolic disorders: disnatremias, along with severity scores were analyzed through multivariate models in order to find associations or predictive models of outcome. CONCLUSION. Spontaneous Subarachnoid Hemorrhage continues to be a practice of great relevance in contemporary medical practice. It is essential to use a clinical grading system in patients to better define their treatment and prognosis. However, the small size of the sample studied requires that the findings be corroborated with a larger scale study.
