Abstract

The incidence of heart failure is increasing during the last years, in order to asses myocardial function imaging studies fhave become the main diagnostic tool to obtain important parameters for this condition such as the ejection fraction. Currently there is controversy regarding wich study has more sensitivity and what is the real cutoff point. We compared the ability of cardiac catheterization to determine preserved ejection fraction (more than 50% in our study) versus echocardiography in patients who are prepared for cardiac surgery in the Cardiothoracic Service of Carlos Andrade Marin Hospital in 2012. We found adequate statistical power to determine preserved fraction values, but poor for those less than 50%.
